The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $750 a month against your solar payment of $395.23 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Duquesne Light rates are moving. Duquesne Light's default supply rate, the Price to Compare, has gone from 7.41 cents a kWh in mid 2021 to 14.14 cents a kWh effective June 2026, an increase of about 91 percent in five years. Its overall residential rate of roughly 23.1 cents a kWh is the highest of any major Pennsylvania utility. A settlement approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in November 2024 raised a typical 600 kWh residential bill from $130.67 to $139.19 a month. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
